28 AUG 2010

Ran 40 minutes on the treadmill this morning. Got in only 3.3 miles, but still happy to get some time in. When you are building up from zero...gotta go slow. Here is a poem that I came across the other day and liked by William Ernest Henley.

Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

28 AUG 2010

Ran 4 miles tonight with Alamo Running Buddies at Phil Hardeberger Park. I was hoping this one would be on trails, but they chose a pavement out-and-back tonight. Nevertheless, my Masochists did fine on the pavement with no ill effects felt in my knees. After objectively assessing my current level of fitness and my current mileage (first run in a month today LOL), I have settled on a strategy to have me up to 40 mile weeks by January. I had planned on running the 100 at Rocky Raccoon but being realistic I should stay with the 50 mile. At this stage in the game, completions will be a lot more motivating than crash and burn DNF's on low mileage. I am also looking at the Rockledge Rumble 50K on the 13th of November as a motivator to get in the miles and as a longer prep run towards Feb and Rocky.

9 August 10

The plan for tonight was to start off the Insanity program and then run 2 miles as it was a rest day for me on my schedule. I got the 59 minutes of Insanity in, but that was about it. I was so smoked after I got done with it that running 2 miles did not seem advisable. I am gonna play it by ear and see how I feel on my off days as to wether I want to throw in an easy 2miles or not. My schedule tomorrow calls for about 4 miles so i am planning to run with my club

Sunset Ultra-Fitness Run

25 February 2010

Ran 4.6 tonight with the R.U.N club. Its a nice little kick in the nuts trail that has some steep steps that hurt either way you run them. This is the second week in a row that I have ran with them and I think that I will try to get this as a weekly run for me.
